Hi Folks. Happy (Belated) Friday! I hope everyone has had a good week, and a good weekend coming up. This week we spent most of our time stretching and priming canvas, and experimenting with some work on paper. So, this wasn’t the most productive of weeks, but I did learn how to prime paper for oil painting, which may prove very useful in the next few months.
Unfortunately we didn’t have anything ready to photograph this week, but there’s some interesting stuff coming up next week. One of the experiments we did was to prime a sheet of watercolor paper with 2 coats of white gesso and 2 coats of white acrylic paint. This is pretty much the same procedure I use on canvas.
The interesting thing is that we’re doing an oil painting on the paper. Yeah I know oil on paper isn’t anything new, but it is for me, and I’m hoping that with the use of acrylic gesso and primers the image should have fairly good archival qualities. Since the image is essentially sitting of a sheet of acrylic, I think the painting should be able to be remounted on to a different surface after the paper decomposes. My grandchildren’s kids will have to worry about that I guess, I just paint’em.
Ok folks, here comes the rant of the week…lol.
So, am I the only one who’s getting totally fed up with politicians, and yes the second you run for office you’re a politician; slinging mud at each other. If you translate all the rhetoric into English, what you get is “vote for me because the other guy is a bigger bastard than me”. As usual, it looks like all we have is a bunch of corporate stooges trying to get into office so the bosses can loot the treasury. It’s a pretty pathetic choice we have this year.
While I’m on the subject, beware of any politician who says he’ll run government like a business. Remember, the purpose of government is to serve, protect and defend the long-term welfare of the people. The purpose of business is to cheat and exploit workers in order to obtain a short-term profit. The corporate bosses do not care about you in the least, and don’t really care if you have a job or not. All they care about is the size of their next bonus.
I don’t know what the rest of you may choose, but for me, I’m sticking with President Obama!
End of rant.
If you happen to be in the Brandon area, please remember that I’ve got six paintings hanging in “The Art of Hair” salon at 10963 Causeway Blvd., in Brandon. So, I hope you’ll drop by and check them out, and maybe get some great hair styling while you’re them.
If you’ve got a few bucks to spare, how about spending them on Haiti. There are a lot of good programs going on, my two favorites are, as always, Doctors without borders, they’ve got a link below. Also, The Clinton-Bush Haiti fund.

Hi Folks. Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a good week, and a good weekend coming up. We completed four paintings for you this week, and we have several more in the works.
The first new painting for this week is 18 X 24 inch oil on canvas, which I entitled

”Peering into the void”. If you look at this painting for a few moments I think you’ll get the idea.
The next painting for this week is a 14 X 20 acrylic abstract expression on watercolor paper called

Expression 1079. This is another line painting done on a black background.
Then we have Expression 1080 which is a 9 X 12 inch acrylic on watercolor paper.

I was in a minimalist frame of mind when I painted this one and the next painting too.
Lastly for this week is 9 X 12 inch acrylic on watercolor paper, which strangely enough is called

”Expression 1081”. This is another minimalist black on white painting.
This has been a rather trying and frustrating week on a number of fronts, and I’m really hoping next week will be a little more sane.
One of the things I’m trying to do right now is to set up a PC for a blind neighbor. If anyone out there has any experience with this sort of thing, email me. I could use some help.
I’m really sorry to dump another lame blog on you, and I promise that if next week isn’t totally crazy I’ll have a much better one for you.

Hi Folks. Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a good week, and a good weekend coming up. We completed four paintings for you this week, and we have several more in the works.
The first new painting for this week is 10 X 7 inch acrylic on watercolor paper, which I entitled

”Expression 1074”. This is another line painting on a black background, which I think you’ll find interesting.
The next painting for this week is a 9 X 12 acrylic abstract expression on watercolor paper called

Expression 1075. As you can see, I really like the black background line paintings.
Then we have Expression 1076 which is a 14 X 20 inch acrylic on watercolor paper.

This is line painting on a gray background which I think you’ll like after looking at it for a few moments.
Lastly for this week is 9 X 12 inch acrylic on watercolor paper, which str4angely enough is called

”Expression 1077”. As you can see I did a bunch of line paintings this week. This particular piece has some passages of impasto which I haven’t done with a work on paper before.
This has been another hectic week, so I didn’t have time to get all the projects I wanted under way, but I’ll keep plugging along. I am looking forward to the 3-day weekend. If nothing else I’ll be able to see my wife for more than 45 minutes a night.
I want to give a big shout out to all my new followers and friends on Twitter, Myspace and facebook. I really appreciate your support. And for the folks who’ve been with my right along, I appreciate you beyond measure. Someday; hopefully in this lifetime; I (we) will get “discovered” and then you can say that you followed me before it was fashionable. Ok, so one can hope anyway.
A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned I was trying to find a label for my line paintings as a way to describe them. The more I consider it, the more convinced I am that maybe “dancing music” is a good description. I’ve usually got some kind of music in my head when I’m painting, and when you think about the color harmonies and image rhythms, I think dancing music might be a good descriptor. So when you look at these weeks paintings, try to think about what music might go along with it. Don’t cost nothin’ to look ya know.
