Hi again folks. Only 10 days to Christmas.
Well I sure wish I could say that it’s been a productive week, but I’m afraid that it hasn’t. With only three days a week to get anything done, progress
can sometimes be agonizingly slow.
As always, I’m running short of materials, but I should have some canvas ready to go by next week, so I hope to have a few more paintings done this year.
I’d like to try to finish 100 paintings in 2008, but that sadly, depends on whether the J-O-B allows me the time.
I did get a gallery set up on AbsoluteArts http://www.absolutearts.com/portfolios/r/rodzart/, this week, so that’s another outlet if anyone is looking to buy.
I’ve also added a list of links down at the bottom of this page. I hope you’ll visit them.
I thought this week I’m mention to everybody why I don’t name a lot of my paintings. In a lot of cases I’ll call a painting “expression this or that” or
“Composition something or other”.
Remember that abstract expressionism goes beyond the portrayal of objects. I want people to look at my paintings with an open mind, and see whatever it is
that the particular painting has to say to them individually. If I call a painting say “bottle of beer” the viewer is going to try to see a bottle of beer
there whether there is one in the painting or not. If on the other hand I call that painting “expression 710” the viewer has no preconceived notion of what
to look for, and the painting can take that viewer wherever it will. Incidentally, “expression 710” simply means the 10th painting I completed in 2007.
So you can see, I hope, that the function of the exercise with most of my art is to let you decide what the painting means to you.
Occasionally, as you know, I well put a name to a painting if it moves me in a particular direction, and I want to share is with the viewer;
“Midnight Vision” for instance. I hadn’t started out to paint a “Midnight Vision” but when it was done it looked a lot like a really cool view of a night sky,
hence the name .
Just to remind everyone, there are a lot of things in this world that I take very seriously, I’m just not one of them. Some of my paintings like “Blood of the innocents”
are deadly serious.
On the other hand, most of the time I like to create paintings that are just fun, or otherwise moving to look at. Not every painting has to be serious or political.
Remember, I’ve got a ton of auctions going on ArtByUs and if you see something you like on the website just email me for availability and price.
Hope everyone has a good week, try not to let your J-O-B rot your mind!!….Rod
